THE PROGRAM Hm, well I haven't gotten all my pix onto the site just yet, but here is just kind of a page that introduces some of the main locations and things that we encounter on the Love Boat. You know, Chien Tan, Ocean, class, stuff like that...shoot...I'm pretty damn disorganized. Anyhow, just check it out.
Taipei as seen from Chien Tan Youth Center. Home base for A and B group. CHIEN TAN 4EVER BABY! OCEAN SUX!!!! People say that going to C and D group is better, but I don't know about that. I switched groups before the thing started and I'm glad!
Jerry and my room at Chien Tan. 3rd floor #1308. We were lucky to get a double room. Very comfortable. Decent sized TV with 80+ Taiwanese cable channels. Chinese MTV? Channel [V] anyone? How about South Park in Chinese? Oh yea, the 3rd floor is also where you go to access the stairs that lead out to the "escape route."
During the day we hardly used Taxi cabs. The most convenient and affordable means of transportation was the Taipei Subway. Very new very nice and just an 8-10 minute walk from Chien Tan. Just remember not to bring food, gum, or drinks on to the train you'll get chewed out by the security guards for being damn foreigners who don't respect the laws of Taiwan. The night market is right behind the station.
At Chien Tan and Ocean we took classes, a language class and cultural class. This is my Chinese class, group B Level 6(!). Our class was the bomb. picture is from the Ocean classroom. Our teacher was really cool. Taught us songs and just random stuff we wanted to know. Wang Lao Shi Wo Men Ai Ni!! If you look carefully I'm up to my usual mischief...here I try to take a bite out of Karina's head...heh heh heh...
Hey who dat be??! There was quite abit of bus riding on Love Boat. Not that much during Taipei, alot at Ocean. Anyways, this is my Bus, Group B bus A.
Welcome to Ghettoville R.O.C. The Ocean University campus in Jilong ("KeeLong") was where we spent the latter 1/2 of Love boat. It was definitely a shocker after being used to the luxuries and comforts of the Chien Tan Youth Center in Taipei. The surrounding area was nice in the sense that it was away from the big city and right next to the ocean, but seriously the dorm living conditions were pretty ghetto. That's the best term to describe it. MO'FO GHETTO ASS! Depsite it's "ghetto-ness" I have very fond memories of Ocean University.
A shot from our floor's balcony. Pretty no? Looks can be deceiving. Amazingly, most of the buildings and facilities are relatively new, only the dorms are in pretty bad shape.
This is our cell block at Ocean. #2306. Who can forget the stench of this hall? A shot of our "cell." Notice how freakin' tall the bunk beds are, you'll break your neck or legs trying to jump down....hey isn't this a dorm for Chinese student's??? Tsk Tsk!!! No girls allowed in guys rooms!!! No one cares much for the rules. That's something ya figure out early on.
Hm, what could I say about the food? Most everything was prepared by the Youth Centers' Cafeterias. Food was edible. You mostly eat ramen, McDonalds, junk food, and whatever else you can get to stave off hunger. Night market food is supposed to be really good, but I wouldn't know my stomach gave me too much trouble. This was taken at KenDing Youth Center cafeteria. I liked this place b/c the complex was actually a series of traditional Chinese buildings with round entrances and inner courtyards. Supposedly compound "00" was haunted. I stayed in #003 and the opposite room to us was supposedly where the ghost activity occurred. Who knows. I don't believe in ghosts so I wasn't spooked.
