MY REFLECTIONS OF LOVE BOAT 2000

Welcome to my ghetto ass little Love Boat 2000 website that I threw together. This site is dedicated to the great  times and wonderful memories I had on Love Boat 2000.

I kinda wish I had kept a journal or log of my day to day experiences.  Sh*t, I have a hard time remembering  specific orders of events and place names already. You may think 5 weeks is a long time, but I was suprised how fast it went by. There's just so much going on in such a compressed amount of time. Time flies when you're having fun!

So who still has those "LOVE BOAT BLUES????"

chilling out with green-mango popsicles (awesome!) on the last stop of the 9 day tour.

Hm, what is the Study Tour aka "Love Boat?" I don't really know how to answer that if someone were to ask me that question. All I could say is that it was a lot of fun,  more fun then I've had in a long time. Perhaps more fun then I'll ever have in my life.

Here's how I'd describe it: Think summer camp gone wild. Meet Chinese people from all around the world (yea, there are Chinese people in Denmark and Belgium strangely enough). Have little to no responsibilities. Be out of the country for a long duration of time. Be ready for boring ass propagandistic lectures and seeing Chiang Kai Shek at ever corner. You'll probably get sick at least once if your lucky. Eat strange foods from both from the cafeteria and night market (although I didn't cause I have a weak stomach) . Be inclined to steal/hoard food from other tables. Not sleep much. Eat more instant noodles then you've ever had in your life. Get used to mad crowds of people. Get used to the feeling of being part of  the majority as opposed to the minority when in a crowd. Get used to skillful but aggressive drivers. Be sick of eating corn in just about every food stuff and meal. Get used to using large denominations of money (100NT was equal to ~3.33 USD). Get used to how cheap everything in Taiwan is. Discover how dependent you are on the internet and crave the Net cafes. Perhaps hook up with 1, 2, 3, or more people of the opposite sex (how many "lumps you've got? heh heh heh... inside joke)....it is after all the "Love Boat." Find out what a Betel Nut is and who "Bing Lang girls" are. Maybe improve on your Chinese, but I doubt that. Maybe become proficient with a Chinese "cultural" skill, but I doubt that too. Learn to deal with the tropical humidity. Learn to be grateful for AC. Learn to deal with squat toilets. Learn that paper napkins and toilet paper isn't free or plentiful like it is in the States. Learn to sleep with ants crawling in your bed, or even cockroaches too. Hope that for the rest of your life you'll never have to  live in a more ghetto place then Ocean Campus Dorms. Know that if you must live in ghetto conditions you can survive after living in Ocean Dorms. Learn to just deal with "hardships" in general. Find out that sneaking out isn't as exciting, dangerous, or as punishing as it looks. Find out the demerit system is a joke. Reflect and think that the perhaps the original intentions and goals of the Study Tour are seriously out of whack...which is really good for us students cause it was nothing but a mad 5 week summer party!! Yeeee haw!! Also, please sign the Guestbook Below too! Thanks!

(Um, this site is pretty photo intensive so hopefully it loads ok...I didn't bother to index or make thumbnails. Man, too many pix!! I'm tired! Oh well.  Oh yea, STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION )
